What is a board member?

Thank you for exploring what it is to become a board member with The First Tee of the Virginia Peninsula. Board members are essential to the community and to our program!

“Together, we can serve humanity with our unique passions, gifts and abilities.” – Lailah Gifty Akita

Board members

  • are advocates for the program by providing positive support of the organization to the general public.
  • recommend actions or policies to staff and the governing board of the YMCA.
  • support the full achievement of The First Tee of the Virginia Peninsula vision through personal contributions and securing adequate funds for community inclusion in programming.

The time commitment varies, but it is generally about 2 hours a month.

The branch board is a highly regarded volunteer leadership opportunity in the community, it performs as a team, The First Tee of the Virginia Peninsula image is enhanced, and the annual campaign grows annually in funds and friends raised.
